Willis Creek Horseback Ride
That's a Slot Canyon for sure!
We wanted to experience a horseback ride while staying at the Stone Canyon Inn. Our great host, Dixie, recommended a morning ride out to Willis Creek - about 1/2 way to Kodachrome State Park.
After getting settled(?) in our saddles we started a great trail ride up Willis Creek. It was only flowing a little bit, so the ride was great. As we got closer to the slot canyon we knew it was going to be quite something. The walls to our sides were becoming closer and taller!
As you can see by our pictures, it becomes really narrow -thus, a slot canyon.
As we slowly entered our first ever "Slot Canyon", we were both nervous yet excited. Wow - what a beautiful entrance. As our eyes adjusted to the lack of sunlight, we were all in awe at the colors, wavy & puckering striations and the fact that this was all carved naturally by rushing water!
We all laughed as we realized we were nervous about this trip and then saw just how fabulous the colors and view were. Our poor wrangler had a hard time getting us to keep moving! We all just wanted to stop and stare and take in this wonderful work of nature!
We can't wait to come back and ride through Willis Creek again!
