Wow!

Ever see a 100+ foot waterfall up close? Wow - we took a day trip from the Stone Canyon Inn out to hike into the Grand Staircase area and see Upper Calf Creek Falls.

What a fantastic hike!

Even though Dixie told us it was between 80 and 81 mile marker, we kept looking for the dirt roadway from about 70... we were ready to go hiking and get wet!

Once we found the Trail Head, we hiked down about 1/2 way into the valley to get to the top of the falls first. It was really beautiful and such crystal clear water. There were a group of young adults actually swimming in the upper pool of water, before it cascades over the falls. Even they said it was cold - we just watched!

After a bit, we hiked back to a trail that lead us down to the pool at the bottom of the waterfalls. Finally, after coming around several curves, we saw the waterfalls from the bottom area. After going through some trees and small cave like caverns on the sides of a wall, we came to an opening and the actual pool of water itself.

Just looking up into the falls was an experience! We took our shoes and socks off and waded into the cold; but oh, so clear water, and delighted in the sensation of getting misted by this huge waterfalls right in front of us!

An absolute must do on any visit to the area.

Dixie is right, you really have to pay attention to which rocks you pick to climb back out of the valley though. We quickly realized you could easily come out 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from your car - they were all similar looking!

Thanks Dixie - a great experience!

We wish we had taken the time to see Upper Calf Creek Falls. Unfortunately, we drove right past and didn't allow the time to stop.

We sure will the next time back!
